01Who we are

Jonathan Levit Presents is the sole proprietorship of Jonathan Levit, based in California, in the United States. In this policy, "we" and "us" mean Jonathan Levit Presents, and "you" means the person reading it.

This policy covers jonathanlevit.com and the Stranger X and The Stranger applications for iOS. It does not cover anything you do on a site or service that is not ours, even if you reached it from one of ours.

02What we collect

We collect only what the product actually needs, and we would rather tell you plainly what that is than bury it.

Information you give us

  • Account information. The name and email address you use to register, and the password you set. We store the password only in hashed form and cannot read it.
  • Your Strangers. The people you choose in advance to receive a call, and the phone numbers you enter for them.
  • Content you create. Recordings you make in the app, scripts and notes, and anything you publish or share through the Marketplace.
  • Messages. Anything you write to us for support, and your answers if you choose to take part in a survey.

Information we receive automatically

  • Purchase confirmations. Purchases are processed by Apple. Apple tells us that a purchase happened and what was bought. We never see or store your card details.
  • Diagnostics and usage. Basic information about how the app is performing, so we can find and fix faults.
  • Website logs and cookies. Our site is hosted on Squarespace, which records standard server information and sets cookies necessary to run the site.

03What we do not collect

Some things are worth stating in the negative, because people assume them:

  • We do not collect payment card numbers. Apple handles payment. We never see them.
  • We do not collect anything about your audience. The person who dials the number is not our user, we do not know who they are, and the app does not record or store them.
  • We do not collect precise location. Choosing a call region is a setting, not a reading of where you are.

04How we use it

We use the information above to:

  • Run the service and deliver what you bought.
  • Route calls to the person you chose, and tell that person a call is coming.
  • Answer your questions and provide support.
  • Tell you about updates, new features and other products, where you have not asked us to stop.
  • Ask your opinion, if you choose to answer.
  • Keep the service secure and investigate misuse.
  • Meet our legal obligations.

05We do not sell your information

We have never sold, rented or leased customer names or customer lists to anyone, and we will not. There is no arrangement under which a third party pays us for access to you.

06When we share it

We share information in four situations, and no others.

  • Service providers. Companies that run parts of the service for us - hosting, email delivery, payment through Apple - and only what they need to do that work.
  • Things you publish. A Marketplace listing carries your member name. That is the point of it: nothing on the Marketplace is anonymous. A recording you share privately goes to the one person you send it to.
  • Law and safety. Where we are required to by law or legal process, or where we believe in good faith that it is necessary to protect our rights or property, or someone's personal safety.
  • A change of ownership. If the business is sold or merged, information may pass to the new owner, who would be bound by this policy until it is properly replaced.

07AI transcripts and your own API key

Stranger X can generate a written transcript of a recording you made. That feature runs on an API key you supply and control, from an AI provider you have your own account with.

When you use it, your recording is sent to that provider under their terms and their privacy policy, not ours. We do not hold your key, we are not a party to your agreement with them, and we cannot see or retrieve what you send. If you want to know how long they keep it or whether they train on it, that is a question for them - and it is worth asking.

If you never enter a key, the feature never runs and nothing is sent anywhere.

08Other services and links

Some parts of the experience are run by other people, and their policies govern them, not ours:

  • Apple - the App Store, purchases, and the operating system itself.
  • Our regional community groups on WhatsApp, and our group on Facebook. Joining either means joining a service with its own terms.
  • YouTube, where our films are hosted. On our own pages, nothing loads from YouTube until you press play.

Our site also links to other websites. We do not control them and we do not take responsibility for how they handle your information. It is worth reading the privacy policy of any site that asks you for something.

09How long we keep it

We keep account information for as long as you have an account, and for a reasonable period afterwards for our records and legal obligations. Content you created is deleted when you delete it or when your account is deleted. Support messages are kept so we have the history if you write again.

10Security

We take reasonable physical, procedural and technical precautions to protect the information we hold against loss, misuse, unauthorised access, disclosure and alteration.

No system is perfect, and we will not tell you otherwise. If a breach ever affects your information, we will tell you and the relevant authorities as the law requires.

11Children

Stranger X is a professional tool and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under thirteen. If we learn that we have, we delete it promptly.

If you believe a child has given us information, write to us at support@jonathanlevitpresents.com and we will remove it.

12Your choices and your rights

Email

Every marketing email we send carries an unsubscribe link, and it works immediately. You can also write to support@jonathanlevitpresents.com and ask to be removed. We will still send messages you need - a receipt, a security notice, a change to these terms.

Your account and your data

You can ask us to show you the information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. Write to support@jonathanlevitpresents.com from the address on your account and we will act on it.

On your device

You control, in iOS Settings, whether the app may send you notifications and what else it may reach. Turning something off may stop part of the app working, but it is your call.

13California privacy rights

If you live in California, you have the right to know what personal information we collect and why, to ask for a copy of it, to ask us to delete it, and to correct it. You also have the right not to be treated differently for exercising any of those rights.

We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law, and we have not in the preceding twelve months.

To make a request, write to support@jonathanlevitpresents.com. We may need to confirm who you are before we act, which protects you as much as it protects us.

14If you are outside the United States

We operate in the United States, and information we hold is processed there. If you are writing to us from the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area or elsewhere, you are sending your information to the United States, where the law may protect it differently than your own does.

Where local law gives you rights of access, correction, deletion, portability or objection, we will honour them. Write to support@jonathanlevitpresents.com.

15Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. When we do, we will change the date at the top of this page and post the new version here.

If we ever want to use information we already hold in a way materially different from what we described when we collected it, we will contact you by email first and give you the choice before we do.

16How to reach us

Questions about this policy, or about anything we hold on you:
